Historically, ports have played a crucial role in shaping social and cultural networks among peoples, nations, and different cultures due to their geographic location and their economic and civilizational roles. Throughout history, they have served as geographic and physical platforms for cultural and knowledge exchanges among the world’s various civilizations and cultures, thus contributing to the formation of a shared cultural life among communities.

This is the inspiration behind the name “Marfaa (port in arabic) for Culture and Publishing.” However, Marfaa aspires to play an unconventional role in the fields of publishing, translation, and authorship. This is achieved through its efforts to support reading, writing, and translation activities via several mechanisms such as publishing, translation, establishing reading clubs, and organizing creative writing workshops in various literary, social, historical, and critical genres. It will also initiate and host poetry evenings, readings, and open literary discussions to further communication and develop cultural content and ideas.

Marfaa aims to contribute to shaping independent publishing policies in the Eastern Mediterranean region by networking, forming partnerships, and alliances with independent publishers, and participating in book fairs and conferences related to the publishing industry, especially the independent sector.
Our mission at Marfaa is to uphold and defend freedom of expression and the independence of the cultural sector, keeping it free from political influences. This is done by supporting activities and projects that promote equality in freedom of expression and authorship, free from discrimination based on gender, color, or religion.
